Mira-Bhayandar: Thanks to the thoughtlessness of the state government coupled by political interference, the coveted commissioner’s post in the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has been reduced to a game of musical chairs.
In a span of less than 14 years, the MBMC has got its twelfth civic chief, this time in the form of Radhabinod Ariban Sharma, an IAS officer (2012 batch) who assumed charge on Friday replacing Sanjay Katkar also an IAS officer (2014 batch).

Having a rich experience of serving various departments, Sharma has held important positions like-joint metropolitan commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), chief administrator of the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar New Township (under CIDCO) and also the collector of Beed district.
Although new to corporations, Sharma is known for his no-nonsense attitude and firm approach while dealing with issues in departments which he has served. Katkar was abruptly issued the marching orders while he was on official training. His tenure was limited to just 19 months.
Under the garb of routine transfers, none of the upright IAS officers including Vikram Kumar, followed by Suresh Kakan, B.G. Pawar and Dr. Naresh Gite, were not given an opportunity of completing their term.
It will be interesting to see if Sharma manages to have an upper hand while administrating the corporation, or succumbs to the intense political pressure exerted by elected representatives and political leaders from the ruling parties in the state.
