Lucknow: In a strategic move to accelerate the development of Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government has decided to create a religious region by merging Varanasi and Prayagraj, encompassing seven districts. According to the reports, this region will span over 22,000 square kilometers. The state government is preparing to establish a regional development authority by combining Varanasi and Prayagraj. The area will be developed as a hub of religious growth.
While equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the region will also feature industrial zones and knowledge parks. Additionally, this development will create significant employment opportunities for local residents.

NITI Aayog’s plan
The NITI Aayog has outlined a plan to make India a USD 30 trillion economy by 2047. In the context of achieving this economic goal, the commission has suggested formation of several regional development programs across states.
In line with this, the state government has decided to establish a regional development authority in the first phase, focusing on the religious and historical significance of Varanasi and Prayagraj. Based on the commission’s suggestions, a proposal for housing development has been prepared.
Proposal to Develop as a Growth Hub
A detailed presentation was given to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, following which the process of forming the Varanasi-Prayagraj Regional Authority started. After reviewing the presentation, the Chief Minister suggested to the Housing and Development Department to create a plan that would benefit the residents or youth as much as possible.
The proposal includes developing cities as growth hubs through a planned approach.
Seven districts will be included
