New Delhi: The government’s semiconductor mission is progressing rapidly. India is no longer dependent on foreign companies like NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel for chips. In fact, Union Minister of Railways and Electronics & IT Ashwini Vaishnaw stated on Saturday, April 12 that India is working on at least 25 chipsets with indigenous intellectual property (IP). The Union Minister mentioned that currently, there are 13 such projects led by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Bengaluru. He stated that owning intellectual property ensures ‘security’ and helps us transition from a service nation to a product nation.

The government is helping 250 educational institutions.

They said that the chips will be manufactured in India itself in the semiconductor fabrication that is being prepared. Towards this goal, the government is in a systematic overhaul process of semiconductor design approaches across more than 300 organizations nationwide, which includes 250 educational institutions and 65 startups. According to the IT Ministry, the aim of these measures is to usher in an era that enables creativity.

The C2S program will prepare 85,000 industry-ready manpower with the goal of creating industry-ready manpower of 85,000 at the B. Tech, M. Tech, and PhD levels, specializing in semiconductor chip design. The program offers students complete practical experience in chip design, fabrication, and testing.

A ‘ChipIN Centre’ has been established under the C2S program as one of the largest facilities in C-DAC, aiming to bring chip design infrastructure to the doorstep of the semiconductor design community in the country. A new Center of Excellence (CoE) for chip design was inaugurated this February to meet the demand for skilled professionals in the semiconductor and chip design industry. The Center of Excellence in chip design was launched by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) at its Noida campus.
