New Delhi: In a significant move that promises to boost the Indian army and enhance its strength, the Modi government is planning to equip the forces with indigenous powerful weapons. On Wednesday, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the procurement of the ATAGS, or Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System, for the Indian Army. Under this approval, more than 300 artillery guns will be purchased for the Army’s artillery regiment, which will have the longest range in the world.

India-made ATAGS is the cannon with the longest range in the world. This cannon can strike enemies up to 48 kilometers away. It can fire 3 rounds in 15 seconds, 15 rounds in 3 minutes, and a total of 60 rounds continuously in 60 minutes. One of its special features is that it can be used in all weather conditions. ATAGS was developed in 2013. It has been tested in terrains ranging from deserts to mountains, after which it has been selected for induction into the army.
