Peter Molyneux is returning to the god game genre with Masters of Albion, and the wait is almost over. Developer 22cans has confirmed that the game will launch on PC via Steam on April 22 at 10:00 a.m. PT, or 1:00 p.m. ET.

Masters of Albion is a modern take on the classic god game formula. It combines strategy, simulation, town management, and tower defense, all set in the familiar world of Albion. The game begins in a small and undeveloped village called Oakridge, where players take on the role of a god and slowly shape the town and its people.

Unlike traditional city builders, the game puts a strong focus on narrative. Players can not only oversee the town from above but also possess individual characters and experience the world through their eyes. This includes exploring the land, completing quests, fighting bandits, and uncovering hidden secrets and treasures across Albion.

The gameplay is split into two distinct parts. During the day, the focus is on building and creativity. Players can design houses, decorate interiors, create products, customize workers and heroes, and interact with NPCs. There are no build timers, so everything happens instantly. When night falls, monsters and hostile creatures attack the town, forcing players to defend what they have built.

Combat plays a major role during these night phases. Players can construct defensive turrets, place heroes strategically, build walls, and use god-like powers to stop enemies. The God Hand allows players to unleash lightning, fire, and raw force, while also letting them directly possess heroes and fight enemies up close.

The story is set in a version of Albion where old magic is slowly returning after being pushed aside by modern technology. Players take on the role of the Chosen One, gifted with divine powers and the Mask, with the goal of defending the people and stopping an ancient threat.
