Kozhikode: A massive fire broke out at Baby Memorial Hospital in Kerala’s Kozhikode on Saturday. People, including patients, were evacuated as soon as the flames started spreading. A thick layer of smoke was seen kilometers away. As per initial details, the fire broke out in the AC plant on the ninth floor of the new C block.
Fortunately, the flames broke out in an area where there were no patients.
The fire broke out around 9:30 am. 5 units of the fire brigade rushed to the hospital and began the rescue operations.
“The fire broke out suddenly. We saw smoke rising and informed the hospital authorities,” an eyewitness told the media. “The fire broke out on the ninth floor where the construction work of the AC plant was going on. There is no problem in other places. Patients on the 8th floor have been shifted,” the authorities said.
As per fire officials, the fire was brought under control after major efforts by the firefighters.
An investigation has been launched into the causes of the accident.
