A Reddit user recently visiting Mumbai revealed about being charged an unexpected ₹450 airport entry and parking fee by an auto-rickshaw driver who arrived to pick him up for the location. “Is this a new thing? Auto Uncle charged me airport parking fee of 450 Rs”, he wrote online, sparking discussions among locals about the legitimacy of such charges. Netizens instantly told him he got “Scammed”.
The man, without revealing his identity, mentioned it was his second visit to Mumbai and waited for minutes together to find a cab to his destination (Jawahar nagar) after landing at the airport.
After waiting in line at the auto stand for 20 minutes, he hopped on a rickshaw that ran on a metre system. The driver charged him with a parking fee in addition to the kilometres he drove to his drop location.

“I do feel 950 rs is a lot…”
He mentioned that the amount he paid at the end of his ride seemed higher than expected.
He compared the rate with that of a cab and wrote, “This was a bit overpriced or if I’m overreacting… I do feel 950 rs is a lot for an auto given a cab is just 1100 rs”. He recollected he paid nearly a similar amount during his previous visit to Mumbai, where he opted for a comfortable cab ride.
During his recent auto ride, the driver, described as kind and helpful, even provided cold water and assisted in cooling down the passenger.
Auto uncle unbuttoned passenger’s shirt
He unbuttoned the passenger’ shirt to help him deal with the hot weather. However, this act was questioned by netizens. “He scammed you but why did he Unbutton your shirt? That’s weird!”, one replied on the post. “I can understand your fatigue at being scammed, but letting some stranger unbutton your shirt is something I can’t fathom?”, wrote another.
“Beta, aap Mumbai pe pehli baar aa rahe ho kya?”, the post quoted the words of the auto uncle. Upon learning he wasn’t a local, netizens pointed out he was scammed. “Beta bol ke g*nd mar diya tera”, one commented. “Beta ko accha chuna lagaya”, said another.
“I am a guy bro – I was wearing formal clothes so he unbuttoned my shirt that’s all”, the Reddit user clarified.
