The police have so far recovered one body part of the father. They have also seized the saw that was allegedly used to cut the bodies and the heavy grinding stone used in the attack.
The search for an elderly couple who went missing in Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh has taken a shocking turn, with police uncovering a brutal double murder inside the family. Police say a man named Ambesh, who is an engineer in his 30s, has been arrested for killing his own parents, Shyam Bahadur, 62, and Babita, 60. A per a report in NDTV, after killing them the accused cut their bodies into pieces using a saw and dumped the remains into a nearby river.
Police say that tensions had been building in the family for a long time. Ambesh often argued with his parents because they did not accept his wife, who is Muslim, and refused to let her live with them. The situation worsened over the months.
Ambesh’s sister Vandana went to the police to report her family missing on December 13. She filed the complaint at the Zafarabad police station in Jaunpur. She told the police that she last spoke to Ambesh on December 8. During that call, Ambesh said that their parents had left the house after a fight and that he was going out to search for them. After that conversation, his phone was switched off. Vandana tried calling him many times but could not reach him.
Police officers grew suspicious because of Ambesh’s last phone call and the fact that his phone remained switched off. When they tracked him down about a week later and questioned him, Ambesh reportedly broke down and admitted to the crime.
How did the crime take place?
Shyam Bahadur, a retired railway worker, and his wife Babita had four children, three daughters and one son, Ambesh. About five years ago, Ambesh married a Muslim woman, but his parents never accepted the marriage. They did not allow their daughter-in-law to enter their home.
Even after the couple had two children, Shyam Bahadur continued to pressure Ambesh to leave his wife. Ambesh later told the police that his father repeatedly asked him to end the marriage. In the end, Ambesh agreed to separate, and his wife asked for Rs. 5 lakh as alimony.
To arrange the money, Ambesh approached his father on December 8 and asked for help. Shyam Bahadur refused. This led to a heated argument between Ambesh and his parents.
According to a report by NDTV, the argument turned violent. Ambesh attacked his mother, Babita, using a heavy household stone. When she cried out, Shyam Bahadur tried to raise an alarm and call for help. Before he could do so, Ambesh assaulted him as well. Both parents died soon after.
Police say that after killing his parents, Ambesh cut their bodies into pieces and disposed of them in a river early the next morning. Later, he called his sister Vandana and told her that their parents had left the house after a fight and that he was going out to look for them. Soon after making the call, he switched off his phone.
How the accused tried to cover up the murder?
On December 14, Ambesh suddenly came back to Jaunpur. When his sisters and other family members asked him where their parents were, he gave unclear answers and avoided their questions. Growing more suspicious, the family informed the police.
During police questioning, Ambesh first tried to confuse the investigators with false statements. However, after continued questioning, he broke down emotionally and admitted to killing his parents.
