Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday announced that within the next two months, 90 per cent of government services for citizens will go digital and soon people will even be able to use them through WhatsApp. Fadnavis, along with Deputy CM Eknath Shinde, joined virtually in the launch of BSNL’s new Swadeshi 4G network, which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The PM also marked BSNL’s silver jubilee by commissioning more than 97,500 new 4G towers across India, including over 92,600 sites for BSNL alone. With this, India has officially joined the select group of countries that manufacture their own telecom equipment.
Speaking at the event in Pune, Fadnavis said the new network will finally connect even the most remote villages. He recalled former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s dream of linking every Indian village with roads, calling it the foundation of development. “Now, with 4G, unconnected villages will get digital connectivity,” he said.
Highlighting the state’s digital push, Fadnavis said that around 1,100 citizen services are being shifted online. Soon, people will be able to track their applications in real time and even see where their file is stuck. If a service is delayed, citizens will have the option to file complaints directly against the officer concerned, he added.
He also assured that BSNL’s 4G system is future-ready, with the capacity to handle 5G and 6G technologies. “India will not lag behind in telecom. In fact, we will lead by bringing the next wave of technology. We will stay one step ahead,” Fadnavis said.
