Mahakumbh LIVE: Several feared dead after a stampede-like situation broke out at the Sangam Ghat as lakhs of pilgrims gathered for the holy dip on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya early Wednesday. According to an officer on Special Duty for the Mela Akanksha Rana, “Some people have got injured and have been hospitalised after a barrier broke at the Sangam. We are yet to have the exact count of those injured”. The Amrit Snan during Mauni Amavasya is the key ceremony of the Maha Kumbh, anticipated to attract approximately 100 million devotees. This year, a unique celestial event known as ‘Triveni Yog’ is taking place for the first time in 144 years, enhancing the day’s spiritual importance. The injured were taken to the central hospital established in the Mela area. Many of the injured’s relatives also reached there, as did some senior administrative and police officials.
