Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway Update: Travel between the two cities in just 1 hour, to open on..., will pass through THESE routes, will also intersect at Ganga Expressway

The Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway is now fully ready and is expected to open to the public after December 15, according to officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The 63-km access-controlled expressway will significantly cut travel time between Lucknow and Kanpur from the current two hours to just about 70 minutes.

“We have informed higher authorities that the project is complete and ready for use. We are now waiting for final approval and the inauguration date,” said a senior NHAI official from the Lucknow project unit.

With 99 per cent of the work completed, the new carriageway connects Sarojininagar on the outskirts of Lucknow to Shuklaganj in Unnao district, near the Ganga River. It is designed to allow vehicles to travel at speeds of up to 120 km/h.

Recent trial runs have been successfully conducted, and an interchange is planned to link the route with the Ganga Expressway, ensuring smoother connectivity. The project includes both ground-level and elevated sections, and special safety measures have been put in place to prevent stray animals from entering the expressway.

The Lucknow–Kanpur Expressway will run parallel to National Highway 27 (NH-27) and connects the two major cities through key points such as Bani, Kantha, and Amarsas, before ending near Azad Marg in Kanpur.

It will also intersect the Ganga Expressway in Unnao district, improving overall road connectivity across the Awadh region.

Along its route, five toll plazas are being built at Miranpur Pinwat, Khandedev, and Bani (in Lucknow), as well as Lalganj (Unnao) and near Shuklaganj Bypass (Kanpur).

To ensure passenger comfort and safety, three rest areas are also planned at Aderwa (Nevarna), Padri Khurd, and Unnao. These facilities will include a 10-bed hospital, trauma centre, and 24×7 ambulance services for emergency care.
