New Delhi: In a major development that promises to give a massive infrastructural push, Jammu and Kashmir’s (J&K) much-awaited third Vande Bharat Express train is set to be launched after the completion of Holi 2025. According to the reports, the new semi-high-speed train will connect Jammu and Srinagar. This new-age train will be operated and maintained by the Northern Railway (NR) zone.
Currently, the Ministry of Railways and the Northern Railway (NR) zone are actively monitoring ticket sales and managing the massive influx of passengers during the festive season. Holi 2025 will be celebrated on Friday, March 14.
It is important to note that the railway infrastructure has transformed drastically under the Narendra Modi government. The rail connectivity has improved massively post-2014. States like Manipur and Jammu and Kashmir have also been connected with railway tracks, opening new avenues for business and tourism.
While speaking to ETNOW.in, a senior railway official said that the Vande Bharat train service between Jammu and Srinagar is expected to begin this month.
“Kashmir’s first Vande Bharat train is likely to be launched in March. However, nothing has been confirmed yet. The final decision will be taken by the Railway Board (RB),” the official told ETNOW.in. The Jammu to Srinagar will run between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) and Srinagar.
The fare for traveling from Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to Srinagar and vice versa is expected to be around Rs 1500- Rs 1600 for an AC Chair Car and Rs 2200- Rs 2500 for Executive Chair Car. These ticket charges will include Rs 40 as a reservation charge and Rs 45 as a superfast charge.
The Jammu to Srinagar Vande Bharat train includes 01 Executive Class and 07 AC Chair Cars. The Katra to Srinagar Vande Bharat train will have a carrying capacity of 530 passengers only.
