Intel Corporation has officially appointed Lip-Bu Tan as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective March 18, 2025. Tan has an extensive experience in the semiconductor industry and will succeed Interim Co-CEOs David Zinsner and Michelle (MJ) Johnston Holthaus. He will also rejoin Intel’s board of directors, having previously stepped down in August 2024.
Following Tan’s appointment, Intel’s leadership structure is set to change:
- David Zinsner will remain as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
- Michelle Johnston Holthaus will continue as CEO of Intel Products.
- Frank D. Yeary, who temporarily took on the role of Interim Executive Chair, will revert to being Independent Chair of the Board.
Tan is a well-known figure in the semiconductor and software industry, with over two decades of leadership experience. He previously served as CEO of Cadence Design Systems from 2009 to 2021, where he led a major transformation of the company. Beyond Cadence, Tan is the founding managing partner of Walden Catalyst Ventures and Chairman of Walden International. He currently serves on the boards of Credo Technology Group and Schneider Electric
In 2022, Tan was honored with the Robert N. Noyce Award, the Semiconductor Industry Association’s highest recognition.
Intel has been undergoing a critical transformation. The company is focusing on rebuilding its process technology roadmap, improving execution, and advancing its foundry strategy. Tan’s appointment signals a push to regain investor confidence and strengthen Intel’s position in the semiconductor market.
