These phones are fit for secure communication.

New Delhi: The Indian Army had used a “Sambhav” smartphone for secure communication during its talks with China in October. Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi also confirmed it in his annual press conference.

Around 30,000 ‘Sambhav’ phones have been given to the authorities. These phones already have the numbers of important officers stored inside the handset. They are equipped with different and special apps. These smartphones have a special app to send photos, videos or documents which is completely safe and there is no possibility of data leak at all.

The ‘Sambhav’ smartphone project was started only last year.

What is Sambhav?

These smartphones have been developed as a leak-proof and secure communication tool. SAMBHAV is an acronym for Secure Army Mobile Bharat Version. This phone has the M-Sigma app, which works like WhatsApp.

It allows sharing of important documents, photographs and videos. The project started last year. These phones work on Airtel and Jio networks. The army hopes that this will prevent the leakage of important documents and other sensitive data.

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi confirmed in his annual press conference that these phones were used in border talks with China in October. He mentioned that the ‘Sambhav’ phones were used for secure communication.

Around 30,000 ‘Sambhav’ phones have been provided to officials for secure communication, reports news agency ANI citing Defense sources.

No risk of information leakage

Previously, many army officials used WhatsApp and similar apps to share information and documents. However, this often led to information leaks. The ‘Sambhav’ phones already have the numbers of all important officials stored in them. Therefore, officials do not need to save the numbers.
