New Delhi: The terrorist who attacked Jewish people at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, on December 14 was an Indian. This claim was made by CNN in a report. Earlier media reports claimed the terrorist was Pakistani. According to CNN, Philippine authorities have confirmed that the terrorist, Sajid Akram, travelled to the Philippines with his son, Naveed, on November 1.
Sajid Used An Indian Passport
During this time, Sajid used an Indian passport while his son used an Australian passport. They had been planning the attack for a month. Immigration Bureau spokesperson Dana Sandoval told CNN that Sajid is a resident of Australia and an Indian citizen, as he was travelling to the Philippines on an Indian passport.
Terrorists Went To Davao City In The Philippines
According to officials, both went to Davao City in the Philippines. Davao is located on the island of Mindanao in the southern part of the Philippines. Mindanao has the largest Muslim population in the Philippines. It is considered a stronghold of Islamic extremist and rebel organizations. These communities demand a separate country.
In addition, two Islamic State flags were recovered from the terrorists’ vehicle, leading to the suspicion that they were connected to ISIS. CNN has contacted the Indian Ministry of External Affairs for comment on this matter. India has not yet provided any information. In the terrorist attack in Australia, 16 people died, and more than 40 were injured, while one terrorist was also killed.
