New Delhi: India welcomed the year 2025 with widespread celebrations, as cities across the country came alive with festivities marked with cultural events, live music, and themed decorations. Citizens gathered in public spaces and iconic landmarks to welcome the New Year with enthusiasm and cheer.
In the national capital, Delhi, popular areas such as Hauz Khas, Connaught Place, and Lajpat Nagar witnessed large crowds. Security arrangements were heightened by Delhi Police to ensure a safe and seamless experience for people. Meanwhile, in Amritsar, the Golden Temple became a focal point for New Year prayers and gatherings, while hotels in various cities hosted special celebration events for the occasion.
Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal saw citizens dancing in the streets, while in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, also witnessed similar scenes as people celebrated the arrival of the New Year. Across cities, fireworks lit up the night sky, with Mumbai’s iconic beaches, including Juhu Beach, Chowpatty Beach, and Versova Beach were packed with large crowds, complemented by gatherings along Marine Drive.
Manali in Himachal Pradesh, a popular tourist destination, hosted vibrant street celebrations. In West Bengal, celebrants illuminated the night with mobile phone lights, while in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram, a spectacular fireworks lit up the sky marked the arrival of the New Year. Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, saw residents take part in cake-cutting ceremonies, adding a festive touch to the night.
President Droupadi Murmu extended her New Year greetings to the nation on the New Year eve, stating, “On the joyous occasion of the new year, I extend my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all Indians, living in India and abroad. The coming of the new year marks the beginning of new hopes, dreams, and aspirations in our lives. Let us welcome the New Year with joy and enthusiasm and take our society and nation further on the path of unity and excellence.”
