On the weather side, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 26.4 degree Celsius, which is 2.1 degree Celsius below normal, and a minimum temperature of 10.2 degree Celsius on Friday.
A thick layer of smog covered Delhi on Saturday morning, making the India Gate completely disappear from view. Not only the iconic structure, but its surrounding areas were also barely visible through the dense haze. The national capital is blanketed under a thick layer of smog as pollution continues to worsen. The city’s air quality slipped back into the ‘very poor’ category with an AQI of 369, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Over the past few days, Delhi’s air has been going up and down like a rollercoaster. Delhi’s three-day stretch of ‘severe’ pollution ended on Friday. The overall AQI improved slightly and stood at 387, which is still in the ‘very poor’ range, as per the CPCB’s 4 pm update.

Even with this small relief, many areas continued to breathe highly polluted air. Out of 37 monitoring stations, 12 recorded ‘severe’ air quality and 24 fell in the ‘very poor’ category. Wazirpur had the worst air of the day with an AQI of 433, followed closely by Bawana at 429, according to the CPCB’s Sameer app.
The Decision Support System (DSS) said that on Friday, stubble burning caused 8.5 per cent of Delhi’s pollution, while vehicle emissions made up 19.8 per cent, which was the biggest share among all sources.
The forecast shows that the impact of stubble burning may increase to 16.3 per cent on Saturday.
Satellite images spotted 72 farm fires in Punjab, 15 in Haryana, and 293 in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
