Indian Railways has one of the largest train networks in India. Millions of people travel in Indian Railways train every day. It is one of the cheapest mode of transport in India and if we term Indian Railways as the lifeline of India it is not wrong. The Indian Railways is also upgrading its trains and loading its coaches with better facilities to provide pleasant journey to the passengers. But do you know which train has the tag of being the fastest in India? Well, if you are thinking that it is Vande Bharat or Shatabdi superfast expresses, you are wrong. The country’s fastest train today is not a traditional express but the modern ‘Namo Bharat’. The train currently runs between Delhi and Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor.
Which Is India’s Fastest Train?
Namo Bharat, which runs between Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, operates at the top speed of 160 kmph. Before Namo Bharat, Gatimaan Express was the fastest in India. It was launched in 2016 and was the country’s first semi-high-speed train which is running between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Agra. Gatimaan Express’s top speed was also 160kmph, which was matched by Vande Bharat. On June 24 last year, the Railway Ministry reduced its maximum speed from 160 kmph to 130 kmph. However, the ministry later reduced the top speed of its trains. Currently, all trains on the Indian Railways network run with a top speed limit of 130 kmph.
