In the north, it will connect to National Highway 9 (NH-9), providing direct access to Ghaziabad and Noida. In the south, it will link with the 62.7-kilometre Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has unveiled plans for a 380-kilometre greenfield expressway that will transform road travel in Uttar Pradesh. The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway aims to provide a faster, smoother, and more efficient route connecting Ghaziabad, Noida, and Kanpur. Currently, the journey from Ghaziabad to Kanpur takes around 8 hours, but once the expressway is completed, travel time will be slashed to just 5 hours and 30 minutes. This project is part of the Green Highway Policy, ensuring an eco-friendly and sustainable approach to infrastructure development.
The expressway will pass through nine districts, bringing better connectivity and economic opportunities to these regions:
- Ghaziabad
- Hapur
- Bulandshahr
- Aligarh
- Kasganj
- Farrukhabad
- Kannauj
- Unnao
- Kanpur
Linking to Jewar Airport
To further boost regional connectivity, authorities are considering extending the expressway to Jewar Airport in Noida. This would provide direct access to the international airport and make travel easier for residents and businesses. Additionally, the expressway will link with National Highway 9 in the north and seamlessly connect to the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway (62.7 km) in the south.
A New era for Uttar Pradesh’s road infrastructure
The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway is set to be a game changer for Uttar Pradesh, reducing congestion, cutting travel time, and promoting economic growth. With improved logistics, trade opportunities, and better connectivity, the project will benefit daily commuters, businesses, and the overall development of the state.
The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway is set to be completed by 2026 and will initially feature four lanes. However, with traffic expected to grow, there are plans to expand it to six lanes in the future. As a greenfield expressway, it will incorporate tree plantations and other eco-friendly initiatives, aligning with the Green Highway Policy to promote sustainable infrastructure.
