Mumbai rains, weather LIVE updates: Mumbai began its second day of the monsoon season on Tuesday with light drizzles, which are expected to become heavier as the day progresses.
At least six people lost their lives and several others went missing in rain-related incidents across four Indian states on Monday. Mumbai was hit the hardest, as the city experienced its earliest monsoon in 75 years, arriving more than two weeks ahead of schedule. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon officially reached Mumbai on Monday. Police reported that four people died after being struck by lightning, and another person drowned during the downpour.
The IMD also raised its weather alert from “orange” to “red,” indicating a strong chance of extremely heavy rainfall in the area. Elsewhere in Maharashtra, especially in districts like Thane, Palghar, and Konkan, floodwaters submerged roads, train tracks, bridges, farmland, and homes.
