Indore (Madhya Pradesh): An email threatening a severe explosion led to the evacuation of the LPG filling plant of the Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited in the Mangliya area here on Wednesday. Quick action by the district administration and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) team revealed the email was a hoax.

The email, which was received on the plant’s email ID around 10.30 am, claimed the plant will have a severe pipe blast. It also claimed the explosion would commemorate the ‘unjust’ hanging of Afzal Guru who was executed for his role in the 2001 Parliament attack.

Mangliya police outpost in-charge Vishwajeet Singh Tomar confirmed that the BDDS team’s search did not reveal any bomb or explosives. SDM Ghanshyam Dhangar, who was present during the search operation, told mediapersons that employees were instructed to stay off the plant for the day as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, the email said, “On this sacred day, the HPCL Plant in Indore will witness a significant event — a severe pipe blast incident. This act is intended to commemorate the unjust hanging of Afzal Guru, a moment in history that continues to weigh heavily on the hearts of many. We dare to undertake a rescue operation in the name of our Almighty. Over the weekend, EFPs (Exp. Formed Penetrators) have been strategically placed across the plant in preparation for this very day. The fusing systems, meticulously developed within the mechanical department, along with other indigenous materials, have been acquired for the Holy Operation.”

A case has been registered against an unidentified email sender underSection 351 (4) of the BharatiyaNyay Sanhita(criminal intimidation) on the complaint of the plant in-charge and investigations have started to zero in on the accused.  Sources said that just a day ago, on Tuesday, the police and the BDDS had conducted a mock drill in the area that has many gas and petroleum product plants.
