Eyewitnesses described harrowing scenes of chaos and panic as a stampede broke out at the Sangam during the Maha Kumbh on Wednesday
Maha Kumbh 2025: In an unfortunate incident, a stampede broke out at the Sangam in Prayagraj during the Maha Kumbh on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya. Reports indicate that several devotees have lost their lives in the incident. Rescue and relief operations are underway. The injured are being brought to the central hospital located within the Maha Kumbh area.
So far, there is no confirmed information on the number of injured or the severity of their injuries. Security has been heightened around the central hospital, which has seen approximately 22 ambulances arriving since 3:30 AM.
It is reported that the Akharas were scheduled to begin their holy bath at the Sangam Nose from 5 AM, but their access to the Akhara route has been delayed. Ambulances with sirens blaring can be seen every few minutes on the Akhara route. Due to the incident, the saints and seers of the Akharas have not yet left their camps for the holy bath.
