At Mobile World Congress 2026, HONOR introduced one of its most experimental devices yet. The device is called the HONOR Robot Phone. It is a concept device that moves beyond the traditional idea of a smartphone. The device is built around a fully integrated mechanical gimbal system. While many brands focus on AI software, HONOR is trying to change the hardware itself.
The device comes with a 3-axis mechanical gimbal camera paired with a 200MP sensor. This system moves to stabilize and track subjects. It behaves more like a professional camera mounted on a stabilizer than a normal phone camera.
To make this possible, HONOR developed a custom micro motor that is 70 percent smaller than common solutions in the market. This allowed the company to integrate what it calls the smallest 4DoF gimbal system inside the phone.
The result is a camera module that can physically tilt, rotate, and adjust its position in real time.
The gimbal system is also used for video calls. During demonstrations, the Robot Phone followed the user automatically during a call. If the person moved around, the camera adjusted itself to maintain framing.
The camera module can also show emotional body language. It can nod slightly or respond with subtle movements based on user input. These small gestures make the device feel more expressive.
HONOR even demonstrated that the phone can react to music. When music is playing, the hardware can move rhythmically, almost like dancing to the beat. This is not just a software animation on screen. It is real physical movement powered by internal motors.
This turns the smartphone into something closer to a personal camera assistant. It reduces the need to constantly adjust the phone’s position.

Agentic shooting is designed to make content creation easier. Instead of manually adjusting every setting, the AI understands the scene and helps decide framing, movement, and timing. It works together with the mechanical gimbal system to capture smoother and more professional-looking shots with less effort from the user.
The built in AI video editor further simplifies the process. Users can quickly trim clips, adjust colors, and apply cinematic effects directly on the device. The AI can also suggest edits automatically based on the footage. This reduces the need for third party apps and complex editing workflows.
The company has also announced a strategic collaboration with ARRI, a well-known name in professional cinema technology. The first results of this partnership are expected to appear in this device later this year.
The HONOR Robot Phone is still a concept, but it shows how hardware innovation can change the smartphone experience. Instead of relying only on AI algorithms, HONOR is combining robotics and camera engineering to create something new.
