A shocking incident occurred in Haryana’s Sonipat, where local BJP leader Surendra Jawahar was shot dead on Holi due to an ongoing land dispute. Police confirmed the arrest of the accused, identified as Mannu. According to Gohana ACP Rishi Kant, the incident took place on Friday evening in Jawahar village, Goyana tehsil. When officers arrived at the scene, they found that Mannu had fatally shot Surendra Jawahar, who was the president of the BJP’s Mundlana Mandal.

The case was filed based on a complaint from Jawahar’s wife, Komal. Police investigations revealed that the dispute revolved around a three-bigha land parcel. Jawahar had purchased the land from Mannu’s relatives and paid Rs. 5 lakh for it, but Mannu was unwilling to transfer ownership. A legal battle over the property had been ongoing since 2021.

Mannu had previously warned Jawahar not to enter the disputed land. However, when the BJP leader went there to clear the plot, an enraged Mannu confronted him. According to police reports, Mannu chased him and shot him at close range.

CCTV footage captured the terrifying moments leading to the killing. In the video, Mannu is seen pushing Jawahar into a shop and pointing a gun at him. The BJP leader can be heard shouting, “Maar diya, maar diya” (“I have been killed”). Several bystanders attempted to intervene, but Mannu fired multiple shots at point-blank range before fleeing the scene.

Jawahar succumbed to his injuries on the spot. His body has been sent for post-mortem. The investigation is being handled by Sadar Police Station, and further details will emerge as officials continue questioning the accused.

Jawahra was the Mundlana block president of the BJP. Apart from looking after his agricultural land, Jawahra was also running a small grocery shop at his village. Jawahra is survived by his parents, wife and three children.
