Gwalior: A tea vendor in Maharajganj set himself ablaze by dousing himself in petrol near the Collectorate Chowki at 4:00 PM. Promptly reacting to the situation, people present on the spot rushed him to a nearby hospital.

After his condition worsened, the doctors referred him to the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur. He was later taken to the facility by his wife for further treatment.

A video of the horrific incident was captured on camera.

What Led to the Horrific Incident?

The man, identified as Sabir, is a resident of Gwalior who runs a tea shop near the Collectorate Chowki. He has been married to his wife, who hails from the Chaupariya village, Maharajganj, for seven years. The couple reportedly lived in a rented home with their two daughters, aged five and one. To support his family, Sabir ran a small tea shop near the tehsil.

As per reports, Sabir had been having frequent quarrels with his wife for some time. He reportedly attempted self-immolation after a heated argument with her escalated.

Amid the quarrel, Sabir grabbed a bottle of petrol, poured it over himself, and set himself on fire. Engulfed in flames, he writhed in pain on the road until bystanders struggled to douse the fire.

Police Respond to the Incident

In response to the viral clip of the incident, the Maharajganj Police issues an official statement on X. “The above incident is related to a family dispute. With the help of police and local people, the fire was extinguished and first aid was provided at the district hospital. Peace and order is maintained at the spot,” the tweet read.
