New Delhi: SN Subrahmanyan, Larsen and Toubro (L&T) chairman has been facing massive criticism after expressing his “regret” over not requiring employees to work on Sundays and questioning how long they could spend time with their spouses. From celebrities to renowned entrepreneurs, everyone lashed out at the business tycoon‘s controversial statements. Recently, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a globally revered spiritual and humanitarian leader, expressed his view on the 90-hour workweek debate.
While addressing the daily evening meeting at the Art of Living International Ashram in Bengaluru, Gurudev said, “It’s not how long you should work, but how effectively you should work. This is something most of them forget. Someone may be sitting at their desk for hours to complete one letter, to just compose one proposal. So, before counting the hours, you should also count the effectiveness.”
“Dynamism of a person, the enthusism of a person matters more than time.If the person has the passion, and they can work without getting tired. And if there is no passion and you force someone to work, its not going to work. The burnout today is because the mind is unsettled. With a restless mind, you can’t achieve anything. This fact has been overlooked. I would tell them to meditate everyday, 20 minutes during the lunch break. Then you see how the productivity will increase,” he added.
