Delhi pollution update: In a significant development for the national capital, GRAP 2 restrictions have been imposed in national capital. Keeping in mind the rising pollution levels in the region, the Centre’s panel on Delhi-NCR’s air quality on Sunday announced imposing restrictions under GRAP 2. ⦁ Inter-state buses from NCR states will now not be permitted to enter Delhi.
⦁ There will be ban on usage of diesel generators in the national capital.
⦁ There will be an increase in parking fees to discourage the use of private vehicles.
⦁ Construction activities in Delhi will now not be be allowed at the mentioned scale.

Rising air pollution in Delhi NCR

Air quality in the capital as well as the National Capital Region (NCR) has fallen to the ‘very poor’ category, creating concerns for both the public and the administration. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) was measured at 367 this morning.

Many parts of the Delhi-NCR region registered air quality below substandard levels this morning. Ghaziabad remained the most polluted city, followed by Noida and Delhi, a report by IANS news agency said.

The Meteorological Department and environmental experts believe that slow wind speeds and dropping temperatures are the main reasons behind pollutants filling the air, making it toxic, particularly for the elderly and children.
