Google has started rolling out AI-powered music generation inside the Gemini app. The new feature is powered by Lyria 3, which the company says is its most advanced music generation model so far. So, users can create a 30-second music track using simple prompts. You can type a description, upload a photo, or even add a short video. Gemini will then generate music that matches the mood and style of the input.
The new Create Music tool is available inside the Gemini app under the Tools section. Once selected, users can describe the type of track they want. You can mention the genre, mood, instruments, and even the kind of vocals you prefer.
Lyria 3 can generate instrumental tracks or include AI-generated lyrics with vocals. Users can also add their own lyrics if they want. The system supports a wide range of genres, including 90s rap, Latin pop, folk ballad, and R&B romance.
The most notable thing is that it is not limited to text prompts. If you upload an image or a short video, Gemini will analyze the visual tone and create music that fits the scene. This could be useful for social media creators or short video makers who need quick background music.
Google says the feature is rolling out broadly to all Gemini users at no cost. This makes it easy for casual users, students, and content creators to experiment with AI music without paying for a subscription.
Lyria 3 is also being integrated into YouTube’s Dream Track feature. This will allow YouTube creators to generate short music clips directly for their videos.
Google has added safeguards to reduce the risk of copyright issues. The system is designed to avoid directly copying or mimicking well-known artists. The company says the goal is to support creativity, not replace professional musicians.
Another limitation is the length. Tracks are capped at 30 seconds, which shows that this tool is aimed more at short-form content rather than full-length songs.
AI music generation is becoming more competitive with the rise of music LLMs. Suno is currently one of the most popular AI music platforms and allows users to create longer tracks of up to a few minutes. Reports also suggest that OpenAI may introduce its own AI music tools in the near future. With Lyria 3 now live inside Gemini, Google is clearly entering the race more seriously.
