Mumbai Local Train News: Good News For Commuters, Western Railway To Convert Around 100 12-Car Locals Into 15-Car By End Of Year | Representative Image | File
Mumbai: Western Railway is likely to convert around 100 12-car local train service into 15-car services by the end of the year. The move aims to offer more seating capacity for daily passengers and a comfortable journey.
A senior Western Railway official stated that the upgrade will bring much-needed relief to passengers, enhancing both comfort and convenience for daily commuters, according to a report by Mumbai Mirror. During peak hours, commuters often struggle with overcrowding on local trains.
“Western Railways has always strived hard to provide the best possible services to its esteemed commuters by augmentation of services and their carrying capacity as well as by enhancement of its infrastructure. Besides, it has always been at the forefront in adopting the latest technology to improve and enhance its services,” the official stated as quoted by Mumbai Mirror.
Western Railway launched 15-car local services on the slow line of the Western route from Andheri to Virar, on June 28, 2021. Currently, approximately 1,250 local train services are operating daily. Of these, 79 are 15-car trains, while the remaining services are still 12-car trains.
Central Railway Announces Sunday Mega Block
The Central Railway annouched mega block on Sunday, April 6. Due to that several local trains will be affected. The DOWN slow line services departing CSMT Mumbai from 10.14 am to 3.52 pm will be diverted on DOWN fast line between Matunga and Mulund stations halting at Sion, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Vikhroli, Bhandup and Mulund stations and further re-diverted on DOWN slow line at Mulund station and will arrive at the destination 15 minutes behind schedule.
Due to the mega block the UP slow line service departing Thane from 11.07 am to 3.51 pm will be diverted on UP fast line at Mulund, between Mulund and Matunga stations halting at Mulund, Bhandup, Vikhroli, Ghatkopar, Kurla and Sion and further re-diverted on UP slow line at Matunga station and will arrive destination 15 minutes behind schedule.
