Ghaziabad murder: In a shocking incident, a Ghaziabad couple allegedly killed their landlady by strangling her with a scarf and bashing her head with a a pressure cooker lid after the victim asked them pay their pending rent.
Landlady killed by tenant couple
According to the police, the accused, identified as Ajay Gupta (35) and his wife, Akriti Gupta (33), killed their landlady Deepshikha Sharma (48), when she arrived at their home in Aura Chimera Society in Ghaziabad’s Rajnagar Extension at around 8 pm on Wednesday.
Sharma asked the couple to pay their five months of pending rent which led to heated argument, during which she allegedly bit Ajay Gupta in self-defence. In retaliation, Gupta struck the woman on her head with a pressure cooker lid, while Akriti strangled her with a scarf, killing Sharma on the spot, a senior official said.
The accused then stuffed Sharma’s body in a suitcase and hid it in the storage box of a double bed, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nandgram Upasna Pandey said, adding that Deepshikha and her husband, Umesh Sharma, have two flats in their society, one of which they rented out to the accused a year ago.
Accused arrested, sent to judicial remand
The incident came to light when Deepshikha did not return home till late night, following which her domestic help, Minni, went to the tenants’ home to check on her. Upon arriving at the Guptas’ rented home, Minni grew suspicions and searched the flat during which she shockingly discovered Deepshikha’s body stuffed inside a red suitcase.
Minni alerted the police at around 11:15 pm, following which a police team reached the spot and arrested the couple, police said, adding the victim’s body was sent for post-mortem.
Ajay Gupta and Akriti Gupta were produced before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate on Thursday, which remanded them to 14 days’ judicial custody, police said.
