After India’s successful Operation Sindoor, which showed its military strength to the world, the government is now taking big steps to further boost the Army’s power. To make the forces stronger and better prepared, the Indian Army will soon receive weapons worth Rs. 1,982 crore under the emergency procurement system.

A total of 13 contracts have been finalized for this emergency purchase. These deals include a wide range of defence equipment i.e. from drones and radars to rifles. The goal is to help the Army respond faster and more effectively to any threat, especially in counter-terrorism operations.

Why is this important now?

The decision comes at a time when India is stepping up efforts to completely root out terrorism. The Defence Ministry said this move is aimed at improving the operational readiness of the Army. With these new weapons, the Army will be better equipped to face modern challenges and act swiftly during critical missions.

What weapons will be delivered?

Under this emergency deal, the Indian Army will receive:

  • Integrated Drone Detection and Interdiction Systems (IDDIS)
  • Low-Level Lightweight Radars (LLLR)
  • Very Short Range Air Defence Systems (VSHORADS) including both launchers and missiles
  • Remote-controlled aerial vehicles
  • Loitering munitions
  • Vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) drone systems
  • Various categories of drones

Apart from this, the Army will also get bulletproof jackets (BPJ), Ballistic helmets, Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicles (QRFVs) – both heavy and medium and night sights for rifles.

These new tools and systems will give Indian soldiers better protection and firepower, especially in high-risk zones. The Defence Ministry has made it clear that no effort will be spared in modernizing the Army and ensuring national security.
