Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka offer free bus rides to women travellers on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
Raksha Bandhan 2025: The festival of Rakhi is all set to be celebrated all over India. This year, it falls on Saturday, i.e., August 9. The occasion brings joy to families, brothers, and sisters. Many people travel long distances to celebrate the special day with their siblings and cousins every year.
In this regard, several state governments have announced free travel for women and children. This applies to the state-led government buses, with several regions announcing free travel for up to 3 days.
The auspicious time to celebrate
As per Drik Panchang, a popular Hindu calendar, the festival of Raksha Bandhan starts at 5:47 am on August 9 and ends at 01:24 pm on the same day.
States offering free travel to women
Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Punjab, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Madhya Pradesh are providing free travel in the government-owned buses of their states.
Uttar Pradesh
The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, announced free travel for women, starting today, i.e., Friday, at 6 am, and ending on August 10 at midnight.
Haryana
In Haryana, women and children under the age of 15 are allowed to travel without ticket fares from 12 noon of August 8 till midnight of August 9. The state-run bus transportation permits free travel for the eligible persons functioning up to Delhi and Chandigarh.
Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Karnataka
Delhi, Punjab and Karnataka already provide free bus services to the women, and the same remains operational on the day of Raksha Bandhan too.
In Chandigarh, ladies can travel on buses of CTU (Chandigarh Transport Undertaking) and CCBSS (Chandigarh City Bus Service Society) for free in the tricity area covering Chandigarh, Mohali, and Panchkula.
Uttarakhand
Women can travel in Uttarakhand too for free on the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan.
Madhya Pradesh
In the state of Madhya Pradesh, women can travel for free on August 9 along with receiving a festive bonus. The Chief Minister, Mohan Yadav, stated that Ladli Behna Yojana’s beneficiaries will be getting Rs 1,500 per month in addition to Rs 250 as a rakhi present.
Rajasthan
The Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Bhajan Lal Sharma, put out in public that all the buses of the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation will be providing women with free travel for the dates August 9 and August 10.
