Bombay Scottish School Sexual Assault Case: Former Teacher And Accomplice Arrested In West Bengal | Representative Image
Mumbai: In a recent development in the case involving a 40-year-old former teacher from Bombay Scottish School, Bipasha Kumar, who was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 16-year-old student, her friend and co-accused surrendered before the Special POCSO Court on July 23. The woman had initially fled to West Bengal after an FIR was registered at Dadar Police Station but was later traced and detained by the police on July 19 in the 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.
Transit Bail Granted
Although she was granted transit bail by a West Bengal court on the condition that she surrender before the Special POCSO Court, the co-accused, Shomita, was sent to judicial custody till August 6. The woman has now been remanded to police custody till July 31 by the Special POCSO Court. A senior police officer confirmed that her custodial interrogation was necessary to probe her role in coaxing the minor into a sexual relationship with the teacher.
Co-Accused Arrested and Charged Under Relevant Section
The co-accused, identified as Shomita Banerjee alias Saumita Chatterjee, was arrested on June 29. She was charged under relevant sections of the BNS (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The case came to light after the boy’s mother noticed a sudden change in his behavior, leading to a police complaint. According to investigators, the teacher allegedly took the minor to hotels starting January 2024, where the assaults occurred.
