Life came to a near standstill across Delhi and the adjoining National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday as dense fog blanketed the region. Commuters faced problems as visibility reduced to near zero. Reduced visibility has disrupted flight operations and forced school closures in Noida.
Dense Fog Blankets Delhi-NCR: Residents of Delhi NCR woke up to dense fog that enveloped the entire region. Daily life of people came to a near standstill as dense fog reduced the visibility to near zero. This has caused problems for airlines as low visibility disrupts flight operations. Several trains have also been delayed. Dense fog has also forced school closures in Noida. Meanwhile, air quality in Delhi-NCR has worsened amid the intense cold, with the overall AQI crossing the 400 mark and settling at 403 as of 7 am, under the ‘severe’ category.
Dense Fog Warning
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for dense fog for Delhi and NCR. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 22 and 7 degrees Celsius, respectively. The weather department has also issued an Orange alert for Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Airlines Issue Travel Advisory
Amid the dense fog conditions, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday issued travel advisory for the flyers, warning them of delays and cancellations.

Notably, Jaipur airport, which is a common alternate, is already overwhelmed and congested as flights are diverted there.
IndiGo has also issued a travel advisory, informing its passengers of reduced and fluctuating visibility. The airline stated that the low visibility affected flight schedules.

Delhi Weather Forecast
According to Meteorological Department, due to the activation of a western disturbance, the capital city may remain partly cloudy on the evening of December 31st. Rain is also possible in parts of Delhi-NCR on January 1st. The International Meteorological Department has issued an alert for severe cold and fog in Delhi-NCR before the New Year.
IMD Issues Orange Alert For Fog
Moderate to dense fog engulfed many areas of Delhi this morning. The maximum temperature is expected to hover between 25-28 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature is expected to be 7 degrees Celsius or below. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for fog.
Fog Alert
The weather department stated that dense to very dense fog conditions are very likely during the night and early morning hours in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Uttar Pradesh until December 31, and in Himachal Pradesh until December 30.
Foggy conditions are also likely over the Jammu division till December 30, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal till December 31. Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Odisha also witness fog till January 1.
Cold Wave Alert
According to IMD, cold wave conditions is expected to prevail at isolated places in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, north Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh between December 28 and 30.
Snow And Rain Due To Western Disturbance
A fresh western disturbance is expected to hit the Western Himalayan region from Tuesday, due to which light to moderate rainfall or snowfall is expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and adjoining areas.
