Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Gwalior police have arrested five men for assaulting a policeman who tried to stop them from drinking alcohol in public. One accused is still on the run. The arrest took place in Gwalior district on Tuesday.

On the other hand, the accused claim the police took cigarettes and gutkha from their shop without paying. When they asked for money, the constable allegedly misbehaved. They also alleged that the constable was intoxicated.

According to information, the incident took place on March 15, a day after Holi. Constable Krishna Singh Tomar of Kampu police station was getting his punctured bike repaired near Aamkho when he saw a group of 7-8 men drinking openly. When he asked them to stop, they abused and attacked him. He informed Kampu Police Station in-charge Rudra Pathak, who rushed to the spot. However, the attackers also misbehaved with him and assaulted him. Both officers sustained injuries on their hands and legs.

As the news spread, a police team reached the scene, but the attackers fled. One of them, Pillu Kushwaha, was caught on the spot. Later, the police arrested four more suspects—Lala Kushwaha, Rupesh Rawat, Bharat Kushwaha, and Rahul Sharma. The search for the sixth accused is ongoing. Meanwhile, Police officials have denied any claims of the constable being intoxicated, stating that the constable was attacked while performing his duty.
