Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Fish were found dead in Shahpura Lake. Its video went viral in social media. Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has collected the sample of water and sent for testing.
MP Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) blamed BMC for release of sewage water of Char Imli and Panchsheel Nagar.
However, MPPCB officials also attributed it to reducing dissolved oxygen due to increasing temperature. MP Pollution Control Board (MPPCB) regional officer Brijesh Sharma said, ‘There are two factors.
First, increasing temperature reduces dissolved oxygen and second, non-functioning of treatment process of sewage coming from Char Imli and Panchsheel Nagar.
If treatment process is not okay, it is the fault on part of the BMC administration.’ Pramod Malviya, BMC (lake conservation) superintending engineer said, ‘We have collected samples of water and sent it for testing. Secondly, BMC is going for new treatment plant worth Rs 10 crore for treatment of sewage mixing in Shahpura Lake.
Currently, sewage is released through oxidation pond of sewage at Ekant Park. With installation of new treatment plant, many renovation work will be done for Shahpura Lake like development of pathway, desilting of Shahpura Lake etc.’
