In the latest development regarding the first information report (FIR) filed against Rahul Gandhi by the BJP in connection with the scuffle in Parliament, the Congress party responded on Friday, stating that it is nothing more than “a diversionary tactic.” Taking to X, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal said that an FIR against Rahul Gandhi for defending the legacy of Babasaheb is a “badge of honour.” Notably, Gandhi had protested against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks on BR Ambedkar.
“The FIR against Shri Rahul Gandhi ji is nothing but a diversionary tactic in response to his staunch protest against the Home Minister.” Venugopal’s post read.
“A case against him for defending Babasaheb’s legacy is a badge of honour. And in any case, Rahul ji is already facing 26 FIRs due to the BJP’s political vendetta and this latest FIR will not stop him or the Congress from standing up against the cattiest RSS-BJP regime.”
He further expressed his worry, noting that despite the Delhi Police lodging an FIR after receiving a complaint from BJP MPs, they haven’t taken any step regarding the grievance put forth by female legislators from Congress.
“At the same time, why has the Delhi Police not acted on the FIRs filed by women MPs of INC against the BJP leaders who physically assaulted them?” he sought to know.
BJP Filed FIR Against Gandhi
An incident at the Parliament led to the filing of a First Information Report (FIR) against Rahul Gandhi by the Delhi Police last Thursday. This happened following a squabble that caused harm to two BJP MPs. The members of the BJP have accused Gandhi of inciting violence and causing physical harm.
They’ve even asked the police to consider treating this as an attempted murder. Hemang Joshi, a BJP MP, was the one to lodge the complaint at the Parliament Street Police Station. He was joined by Anurag Thakur and Bansuri Swaraj.
The Congress former president has been booked under sections 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others).
The Congress party similarly issued a complaint at the respective police station. They alleged that BJP leaders had mistreated their president, Mallikarjun Kharge. As a result, they sought the initiation of an FIR, pressing charges of “assault, serious injury, and battery” against them.
