Former Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has lodged a complaint with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) against Delhi CM Rekha Gupta for violating the Juvenile Justice Act by disclosing the identities of vulnerable children during her visit to Asha Kiran Shelter Home.

In a letter to the NCPCR chairperson dated 13/03/2025, Shelly Oberoi shared a link of a news article, alleging the Delhi CM “blatantly breached the provisions aimed at protecting the identity of children, especially those in need of care and protection.”

She said, “During her visit to the Asha Kiran Shelter Home, CM Rekha Gupta disclosed the identities of several juveniles who are not only in need of care and protection but are also mentally ill or physically and mentally challenged. This disclosure is a direct contravention of the Juvenile Justice Act, which strictly prohibits revealing the identification of such children.”

The Delhi CM’s action potentially exposes these children to stigma, discrimination, and harm, undermining their rehabilitation and social integration efforts, the ex-Delhi mayor claimed.

Seeking immediate and stringent action against Rekha Gupta and others for the breach, Shelly Oberoi demanded the NCPCR investigate the matter and implement stricter controls and oversight mechanisms to prevent such violations in the future.

Earlier today, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta visited Asha Kiran Shelter Home and celebrated Holi with Asha Kiran Shelter Home inmates.

After the visit, she said, “I extend greetings to the people of Delhi on Holi. I hope it is a safe Holi and there is no wastage of water. I felt very good on my visit to Asha Kiran.”
