ElevenLabs, the company known for its AI voice technology, has just launched a new tool, Eleven Music, which allows users to generate songs using text prompts. The best thing about it is that these songs are royalty-free and cleared for commercial use.
You can describe the kind of music you want, and the tool will create a full track with vocals and lyrics in just a few minutes.
ElevenLabs has been quietly testing this tool for a while. According to reports, around 20 of their early customers have already been using it for things like films, TV shows, video games, and apps. While the company has not named these users, it is likely because AI-generated content still sparks a lot of debate in the music industry.
Unlike some AI music platforms that have landed in legal trouble, ElevenLabs says they are being careful. They have signed licensing deals with two digital rights organizations: Merlin Network and Kobalt Music Group, which represent smaller record labels. The company’s co-founder and CEO, Mati Staniszewski, also said they are working to bring major music labels on board.
He added that the AI model is trained only on data they have permission to use. This is important because other popular AI music tools like Suno and Udio are already facing lawsuits for allegedly using copyrighted music without consent.

AI-generated music is quickly becoming a trend. One completely fictional AI band, Velvet Sundown, managed to gain millions of listens on Spotify.
ElevenLabs is already known for its AI voices. Its tools can create lifelike speech based on real people — including historical figures and celebrities. In fact, its tech was even used to create fake robocalls with a voice that sounded like Joe Biden.
Now that the company is entering the growing AI music space. It will be interesting to see if it empowers indie creators or creates more controversy.
