Pune: Dr Neelam Gorhe Urges Maharashtra Govt To Rename Shivajinagar As Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Nagar |

Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Dr. Neelam Gorhe has urged the state government to rename Pune’s historic and significant Shivajinagar area as ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Nagar.’

Speaking in the Legislative Council, MLC Sachin Ahir expressed the pending demand to rename the Shivajinagar Metro Station as ‘Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Nagar.’ He recalled that on June 24, 2024, Chhatrapati Shivaji enthusiasts and various organizations had organized a march and demonstrations to push for the renaming of the locality. While metro authorities had responded positively during the demand at the time, no concrete action has been taken yet.

Gorhe highlighted the importance of the Shivajinagar area, stating, “Shivajinagar is a central part of Pune, holding social, historical, and political significance. Many prominent leaders and dignitaries reside in this area. Despite the demand, the renaming process remains incomplete. The government should take necessary steps to rename Shivajinagar as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Nagar.”
