Health officials in Mohali, Punjab, investigated a factory making momos and spring rolls after they found a dog’s severed head in a fridge. The raid was part of a larger crackdown by the district health department and municipal corporation on food units operating in filthy conditions. The factory, located in Mataur village, caught the attention of authorities after a video showing its unhygienic practices surfaced online. The footage revealed extremely dirty surroundings where the food was being prepared.
Reports indicate that this factory had been supplying over 100 kilograms of momos and spring rolls every day for the past two years to areas like Chandigarh, Panchkula, and Kalka. The raid was carried out after the viral video showed workers using contaminated water and spoiled vegetables to prepare the food, raising serious health concerns.
What did the authorities find?

Additionally, around 50 kilograms of rotten chicken was seized and immediately destroyed. The factory’s kitchen was in an appalling state, raising serious concerns about the cleanliness and safety of the food being produced.
Action against the factory
In the viral video, the unsanitary conditions of the factory were clearly visible. The area where the momos were stored was surrounded by rotting vegetables like cabbage and other spoiled food items. The momos were being fried in dirty, reused oil.
The factory was found to be supplying momos and spring rolls to multiple locations. After the inspection, the health department took strict action. They destroyed the contaminated food and sent samples for laboratory testing. The test reports are expected soon.
The authorities also issued fines against the factory for violating food safety regulations and gave them a strict warning to improve their hygiene standards.
