Discord is rolling out video ads on mobile starting June 2025. These ads are part of its Quest system and will offer users rewards in exchange for watching videos, playing games, or streaming. If you have been using Discord on your desktop, you might already be familiar with Quests, as they were introduced there last year. Now, the company is expanding them to mobile users as well.
Discord pitches Quests as a way for users to discover new games and content while earning in-game rewards. But in reality, it is a way for advertisers to get users to watch game trailers, DLC announcements, and other promotional content. Some Quests even require users to stream games to unlock rewards, which could boost engagement for certain titles.
Big names in gaming, like Diablo, Street Fighter, World of Warcraft, and Genshin Impact, have already used Quests for marketing campaigns. And it’s not just gaming companies—other brands are getting in on the action too. For example, streaming service Max made users watch a Dune: Prophecy trailer before its premiere.
Whenever a Quest is available, users will get a notification. If they choose to accept, they will need to complete a specific task—like watching a trailer or playing a game—to earn the reward. The system is similar to how Quests works on desktop, so expect the same experience but on mobile.
While some users might appreciate the chance to earn rewards, others could see this as just another form of advertising creeping into the platform. Since Quests are optional, they won’t disrupt your regular Discord usage, but it’s clear that the company is looking for more ways to monetize its platform.
