Nagpur Violence: Curfew Continues In Parts Of City On Day 2 After Clashes; Situation Under Control |
Nagpur: Following the violent clashes on March 17 linked to the protest for the removal of Aurangzeb’s tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, curfew remains in place in 11 police station areas across Nagpur on Wednesday. While the city has largely returned to normalcy, authorities have decided to maintain restrictions in sensitive areas as a precautionary measure.
The unrest, which erupted during a demonstration organised by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal, led to an unexpected outbreak of violence in Nagpur. In response, police imposed strict security measures, including curfews and route marches, to prevent further incidents.
A heavy police force remains deployed in affected areas to ensure order. Officials are closely monitoring the situation, with intelligence teams working to identify and prevent any attempts to reignite tensions.
Gradual Relaxation Possible, But No Immediate Plans
According to report, senior police officials have stated that there is currently no decision to lift the curfew in the affected zones. The restrictions, imposed indefinitely, will be eased in a phased manner depending on ground assessments. “We are reviewing the situation regularly. Any relaxation will be done gradually, ensuring there is no risk of fresh disturbances,” a police official told ABP Majha News.
Daily Life To Normalcy Outside Curfew-Imposed Areas
Meanwhile, outside the curfew-imposed areas, daily life in Nagpur has resumed as usual. Public transportation, including Nagpur Metro and state transport services, is operating normally and businesses have reopened. However, authorities have urged residents in sensitive zones to cooperate with restrictions and avoid unnecessary movement.
Heightened Security To Prevent Further Incidents
While the immediate violence has been contained, tensions persist in some parts of the city. A strong police presence remains in place, especially in zones 3, 4 and 5, where the clashes were most intense. Residents in these areas have been advised to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary, and gatherings of more than five people are prohibited.
The administration continues to urge calm, assuring that adequate security arrangements have been made to prevent further disturbances. Officials have also stressed that strict action will be taken against anyone attempting to incite violence.
Additionally, local police will conduct periodic reviews of the situation before making any decisions regarding lifting the curfew. Until then, security forces remain on high alert to ensure peace is fully restored across the city.
