This time, the new sub-variants of Omicron, JN.1 along with its sub-variants LF7 and NB1.8, are being held responsible for the infection. Officials say that so far there is no evidence suggesting that these new variants are more dangerous or spread more rapidly than before. However, they believe that this wave could have an impact on people with weak immunity.

JN.1 is a strain of Omicron’s BA2.86. It was first observed in August 2023. In December 2023, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a ‘variant of interest.

It has about 30 mutations that weaken immunity. According to Johns Hopkins University in the United States, JN.1 spreads more easily compared to previous variants, but it is not very severe. It remains the most common variant in many parts of the world. Symptoms of the JN.1 variant can last anywhere from a few days to weeks. If your symptoms persist for a long time, you may have long COVID. This is a condition where some symptoms of COVID-19 remain even after recovery.

After the detection of 5 COVID-19 cases in Haryana, all hospitals in the state have been put on alert and 10 beds have been reserved at PGI in Rohtak. Sampling and testing of suspected COVID-19 patients has started at all government hospitals in the state.
