The convoy of West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari was allegedly attacked in the presence of police in Cooch Behar, while he was on his way to the Superintendent of Police Office on Tuesday.

Former union minister Nisith Pramanik, sharing the video of the attack on X, alleged that “Police stood as mute puppets” during the attack.

In the post, Nisith said, “On Tuesday, at Khagrabari, Coochbehar, LOP West Bengal Suvendu Adhikari ji and I were brutally attacked by TMC goons. Our car was vandalised.”

Hitting out at the TMC-ruled state government, he stated, “Police stood as mute puppets of Mamata’s regime. This isn’t politics. This is jihad-backed terror, openly protected by the state.”

The incident reportedly took place around 12:35 PM as Adhikari was travelling to lead a protest outside the Superintendent of Police’s office.

Following the incident, Adhikari drew comparisons to his past political struggles in a social media post, stating that he had previously confronted the CPM’s ‘Harmads’ in Nandigram and Maoists in Jungle Mahal without being intimidated, ultimately helping to end 34 years of Communist rule in West Bengal.

He dismissed the TMC attackers as inferior to his previous adversaries, calling them “merely unruly thugs throwing tantrums” and vowing that neither he nor the BJP would be silenced by such intimidation tactics. Adhikari predicted that Mamata Banerjee’s government would face democratic defeat in 2026 and warned that these violent incidents would ultimately work against her.
