The video depicts the Prime Minister in a light blue coat and black trousers, carrying a kettle and tea glasses at a red-carpet event.
A controversy broke out after the Congress circulated an AI-generated video that showed Prime Minister Narendra Modi selling tea at what looked like a red-carpet event. Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak reposted the clip, which showed Modi holding a kettle and tea cups as if he were serving chai at a global event. She shared the video on X with the caption “ab ye kaun kiya (who did this now?)”. The post triggered a strong reaction from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), bringing back old political arguments linked to PM Modi’s past as a tea seller.
BJP reacts to Modi’s AI video
BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla condemned the clip on X, saying, “After Renuka Choudhary insults Parliament & Sena now Ragini Nayak attacks and mocks PM Modi’s Chaiwala background. Naamdar Congress cannot stand a Kamdar PM from OBC community who has come from a poor background. They mocked his Chaiwala background earlier too. They abused him 150 times. They abused his mother in Bihar. People will never forgive them.”

In September, a police case was filed against several Congress leaders for allegedly sharing an AI-generated video that was said to insult Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother. The video was posted on September 10 from the official INC Bihar account on X.
The Bihar Congress unit defended the clip, saying it was never meant to show disrespect toward the Prime Minister or his mother. Pawan Khera, who heads the party’s media and publicity department, said, “What is the issue here? The video simply shows a mother guiding her son to do the right thing. How is that disrespectful? We have full respect for the mother, as well as the son.”
