Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Despite heightened police vigilance during Holi celebrations, unidentified miscreants threw colour on a mosque in Piplani, allegedly trying to disturb communal harmony.

The mosque authorities promptly cleaned the colours and registered an FIR against two bike-borne persons. Police have launched efforts to identify the culprits.

According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday morning at Masjid Umar in Kamla Nagar.

Furqan Ahmad, mosque’s caretaker, stated in his complaint that two persons arrived on a bike around 7 AM and sprayed colours on the mosque’s gate and walls.

Locals who witnessed the act immediately alerted members of the mosque management committee. Ahmad rushed to the spot and informed police. CCTV footage from the area captured the culprits fleeing the scene.

“Such an incident has never happened before. It appears to be an attempt by anti-social elements to disrupt communal harmony,” he said, adding that the mosque premises were promptly cleaned. Piplani police station in-charge Anurag Lal said that an FIR has been registered against unidentified persons for promoting enmity between religious groups. “We are scanning CCTV footage to identify and trace the culprits,” he said.
