New Delhi: A second-year student at Government Degree College, Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, died after suffering from the effects of alleged sexual harassment. Based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s father, the police have registered an FIR against a professor and three others on charges of ragging and sexual harassment. According to the complaint, the deceased was a second-year degree student at the college. It is alleged that on September 18, three female students assaulted and threatened her, causing her to suffer a mental breakdown.
Victim Made A Video Before Dying
Before her death, the student recorded a video on her mobile phone detailing the incidents that had occurred. She described how the professor had touched her inappropriately and mentioned several other instances of mental and sexual harassment. The father of the victim alleged in his police complaint that on September 18, three female students brutally ragged his daughter and threatened her to keep quiet.
Allegations Made In The Complaint
The father has leveled serious allegations against college professor Ashok Kumar in the complaint, accusing him of indecent acts, mental harassment, and inappropriate behaviour. The family says that after these incidents, the student became fearful and stressed, which led to a continuous deterioration of her condition.
According to the family, the student was treated at various hospitals, but she died on December 26 while undergoing treatment at DMC Hospital in Ludhiana. The father says that due to his daughter’s condition and the family’s shock, they were unable to file a complaint earlier.
Police Launch Investigation
Kangra ASP Ashok Ratan stated that a case has been registered based on the complaint. Medical records, video statements, and other evidence are being thoroughly examined. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings. The police have registered a case under Sections 75, 115(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009.
