The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, on World Disability Day 2025, highlighted that with minimal support, persons with disabilities (PWDs) can achieve what many might consider impossible. He said society often underestimates them, but their potential becomes visible when someone chooses to believe in them.

What did CM Yogi say?

The Chief Minister spoke at a state-level event in Lucknow and said that children who become disabled due to accidents or medical conditions often face emotional neglect at places like home and in society. He warned that it can leave a deep impact, but timely encouragement may change their lives.

The chief minister said that both the central and state governments are trying to create more opportunities for PWDs, improving access to education, employment, and assistive tools. He said, “With timely encouragement and support, they can achieve exceptional outcomes.”

What are the major government measures?

The disability pension has risen from Rs. 300 to Rs. 1,000, and more than 16.23 lakh cards have been issued in the state. Almost 20 lakh registrations have been completed so far. Several shelter houses have been made operational in Bareilly, Meerut, Gorakhpur, and Lucknow. Some are yet to open in Chitrakoot and Banda. Uttar Pradesh is the only state which has 2 universities, especially designed for PWDs.
