Delhi to welcome Bharat Taxi from January 1: Check fares, booking steps & safety features

Delhi residents will soon get a new option for booking cabs for their daily travel. Bharat Taxi, India’s first government-supported cooperative cab service, will launch in the capital on January 1, 2026. The platform is expected to change how people travel in cities by offering fixed fares, clear pricing, and better support for drivers. Bharat Taxi will compete with private cab services like Uber, Ola, and Rapido.

On app-based platforms like Uber and Ola, high commissions paid to cab aggregators and demand based dynamic pricing have created a less-than ideal environment for drivers and riders alike. In contrast, Bharat Taxi which will be operated by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited – will work on a zero commission model that will be more advantageous for both.

The new platform will also feature a fixed fare system that will have fares “displayed” before a booking is confirmed, and which will be valid for a specific journey at a given time. This will bring relief from the surge pricing that many cab aggregators are known for, whereby trip fares can be hiked significantly during peak hours, holidays, festivals, or other events, as well as during rain or other bad weather. Bharat Taxi promises transparency in fixed fares and driver earnings.

The cooperative ride-hailing service Bharat Taxi will promise a fare that will be available to users before a trip is booked, regardless of whether it is day or night, a holiday or a working day, rain or shine.

Furthermore, driver earnings are expected to be less affected by the platform’s operating model, with drivers on Bharat Taxi being paid more than 80% of the total fare for a trip, compared to the fare share received by drivers on existing ride-hailing platforms.

The platform will be available on Android and iOS devices and will allow users to book cars, bikes, and auto-rickshaws by entering their phone number and pick-up and drop-off locations and following on-screen instructions to track the trip in real time.

Safety and support features such as the verification of drivers before onboarding to the platform, real-time tracking of cars, coordination with local police, and 24×7 customer care support are part of the app’s efforts to give more confidence to riders, especially those booking their first ride.

Bharat Taxi will launch in Delhi with several thousand drivers already registered to operate on the platform.

The platform plans to expand to other cities after the launch is underway in Delhi, where it will analyze and gauge performance before rolling it out to more cities across India.
